I spent over tewnty years since 1970 in the employment of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, who provide the Air Traffic Control service at a number of major UK Civil Airports and en-route centres, including the Oceanic Control centre which has the callsign Shanwick. I have worked at Belfast International Airport, Prestwick Airport, the former en-route Preston Control Centre, and the former Ulster Radar which handled aircraft entering or leaving the Atlantic Ocean area en-route to/from Europe. I took early retirement in 1994 as a result of illness.
Apart from my amateur radio activities, publications and articles, I have a deep involvement in local based community organisations, being a Director and Assistant Treasurer of Kilkeel Community Association Ltd. ( which has charitable status) and is attempting to promote the social regeneration of Kilkeel and provide a Community Centre; a Director of Kilkeel Development Association Ltd. which attempting to revive the economic needs of Kilkeel. In addition I also chair their Tourism Development Sub Committee. I am also Chairperson and have been so since 1997 of the Kingdom of Mourne Festival Committee and am responsible for the organisation, financing and running of an annual ten day festival with over 200 events in July every year.
I also hold a diploma in computer repairs and sell new and second user computers, along with repairs, upgrades, and basic tuition.
